What Is ChatGPT SEO?

ChatGPT SEO is the work of getting a site cited when ChatGPT answers with search. OpenAI launched ChatGPT search in October 2024, and most of what SEOs say about it since comes from testing, because OpenAI publishes very little on how sources get picked.

How ChatGPT Finds Web Pages

ChatGPT finds web pages through OpenAI's crawlers, and OpenAI's bot guide separates them. OAI-SearchBot surfaces sites in ChatGPT search, GPTBot crawls content that may train its models, and ChatGPT-User visits a page when a person's question sends it there. A site opted out of OAI-SearchBot will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers, and the settings are independent, so check your robots.txt line by line.

What Happened to ChatGPT Atlas?

ChatGPT Atlas launched in October 2025 as OpenAI's own browser, and OpenAI shut it down in August 2026, moving that work into ChatGPT and Codex. The Atlas videos in the news row are a useful reminder of how fast this beat turns over.
